Boise Airport is one of the easier parts of visiting Boise.

BOI sits only a few miles south of Downtown Boise, the terminal is relatively compact, rental cars are within walking distance and getting from baggage claim to downtown is usually much simpler than at a major hub airport.

That does not mean you should show up at the last minute.

Boise Airport now handles more than 5 million passengers per year, and passenger traffic has grown significantly over the past decade. Parking construction, busy holiday periods and morning departure waves can all add time to what normally feels like a very manageable airport.

This guide covers what travelers should know about parking, security, airlines, nonstop destinations, rental cars, rideshare pickup, food and getting between Boise Airport and the rest of the Treasure Valley.

Boise Airport at a Glance

Boise Airport uses the airport code BOI.

It is the primary commercial airport serving Boise and the Treasure Valley and is located just south of Interstate 84.

One of BOI's biggest advantages is proximity.

Downtown Boise is only a few miles away, which means visitors can land, collect their luggage and reach the city without the long airport transfer common in larger metropolitan areas.

The airport currently has two main passenger concourses, B and C, connected through a central terminal area.

For most travelers, navigating BOI is straightforward.

How Early Should You Arrive at Boise Airport?

Boise Airport currently recommends arriving roughly 1.5 to 2 hours before departure.

If someone is dropping you off, 1.5 hours may provide enough time under normal conditions.

If you are parking at the airport, Boise Airport recommends allowing closer to two hours because terminal parking may be full and you may need to use the remote Economy Lot and shuttle.

During holidays, school breaks and other heavy travel periods, giving yourself the full two hours is the safer approach.

BOI often feels fast when it is quiet. That can make frequent travelers comfortable arriving late.

The problem is that parking availability and security lines can change considerably from one day to another.

Boise Airport Security

Boise Airport has a central TSA security checkpoint.

The checkpoint opens approximately one hour before the day's first scheduled flight and generally remains open until shortly before the final scheduled departure.

Travelers should still check airline schedules and airport guidance because hours can shift.

TSA PreCheck

TSA PreCheck is available at Boise Airport.

Eligible passengers can use expedited screening and generally do not need to remove items such as laptops, compliant liquids, belts or light jackets during the normal PreCheck process.

CLEAR

CLEAR operates at Boise Airport.

Members can use biometric identity verification before proceeding to TSA physical screening.

REAL ID

Travelers age 18 and older need an acceptable form of identification for domestic air travel.

An Idaho Star Card is Idaho's REAL ID-compliant driver's license or identification card.

A U.S. passport and several other forms of identification also qualify.

Beginning February 1, 2026, TSA introduced a paid alternative identity-verification process called TSA ConfirmID for travelers who arrive without an acceptable form of identification. Boise Airport currently notes a $45 fee for that process.

Do not build your travel plans around using that option. Bring an accepted ID.

Boise Airport Parking

Parking is one of the areas travelers should check before leaving home.

Boise Airport provides live parking availability on its website, which is worth checking before you drive to the terminal.

The airport currently operates several parking options ranging from remote economy parking to short-term and valet parking.

Parking Rates Through September 30, 2026

Current daily rates are:

  • Economy Lot: $10 per day

  • Long-Term Surface: $17 per day

  • Long-Term East Garage: $20 per day

  • Long-Term Main Garage: $23 per day

  • Short-Term: $30 per day

  • Curbside Valet: $28 per day

These rates are scheduled to change on October 1, 2026.

Parking Rates Beginning October 1, 2026

Boise Airport has announced these new rates:

  • Economy Lot: $12 per day

  • Long-Term Surface: $18 per day

  • Long-Term East Garage: $21 per day

  • Long-Term Main Garage: $24 per day

  • Short-Term: $33 per day

Hourly parking in these facilities will increase to $3 per hour.

That makes the Economy Lot the obvious choice for travelers prioritizing price.

Boise Airport Economy Parking

The Economy Lot is located away from the terminal near Victory Road and Orchard Street.

The current address listed by Boise Airport is 5600 W. Victory Road.

A free airport shuttle runs approximately every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Because you have to park, wait for a shuttle and travel back to the terminal, build additional time into your departure routine.

The Economy Lot becomes particularly important when the close-in garages fill.

Reserved Airport Parking

Boise Airport also allows travelers to reserve certain parking spaces in advance.

Reserved spaces are available in designated portions of the East and Main garages and provide convenient access to the terminal through the skybridge system.

A reservation fee applies in addition to the normal parking rate.

This can make sense during Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break or other periods when parking availability is less predictable.

Boise Airport Valet Parking

Curbside valet parking is available near the east end of the upper departure curb.

The service currently costs $28 per day and operates daily from approximately 4 a.m. until 1 a.m., with later service when necessary for arriving flights.

Reservations are encouraged.

It is obviously not the cheapest option.

But for short trips or travelers who value convenience, it can remove the parking search entirely.

Picking Someone Up at Boise Airport

If you are meeting an arriving passenger, do not circle the terminal repeatedly.

Boise Airport has a free Cell Phone Waiting Lot near Curtis Road and Victory Road.

The airport estimates it is roughly a five-to-seven-minute drive from the terminal.

Have the arriving passenger text or call once they have their bags and are ready at the curb.

Then drive over for pickup.

This is usually easier than trying to time the exact moment their flight reaches the gate.

Uber and Lyft at Boise Airport

Both Uber and Lyft serve Boise Airport.

Rideshare Drop-Off

Passengers traveling to the airport are dropped off on the upper departure curb near their airline.

Rideshare Pickup

Arriving passengers should head to the upper curb at the east end of the terminal.

Boise Airport directs passengers through the second-floor rotunda exit and toward the designated rideshare shelters.

A practical tip: do not request your ride while you are still waiting for checked luggage.

Boise Airport recommends waiting until you have your baggage or have reached the pickup location.

Taxis, Hotel Shuttles and Buses

Most other ground transportation services operate from the lower-level roadway outside baggage claim.

Boise Airport uses color-coded curb areas:

  • Taxis: black curb

  • Courtesy hotel shuttles: green curb

  • Paid shuttles: blue curb

  • Buses: purple curb

Airport signs make these areas relatively easy to locate once you exit baggage claim.

Public Transportation From Boise Airport

Valley Regional Transit provides local bus service connecting Boise Airport with the Boise area.

Routes and schedules can change, so check current service before depending on the bus for a specific flight.

For visitors with luggage or travelers arriving late at night, rideshare or a rental car will often be more convenient.

Rental Cars at Boise Airport

Boise Airport's new consolidated Rental Car Center makes renting a car considerably easier than airports requiring an off-site shuttle.

The Rental Car Center is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway just west of baggage claim.

No rental-car shuttle is required.

Current rental companies include:

  • National

  • Alamo

  • Enterprise

  • Sixt

  • Dollar

  • Hertz

  • Thrifty

  • Avis

  • Budget

  • Payless

For visitors planning to explore Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Bogus Basin, McCall, Stanley or other parts of Idaho, a rental car can make much more sense than relying on rideshare for the entire trip.

Returning a Rental Car

The rental return facility is at 3483 W. Rickenbacker Street.

Drivers approaching from Interstate 84 can take Exit 53 toward Airport Way and Vista Avenue and follow airport signs toward Rental Car Return.

Allow time to refuel, return the vehicle and walk back to the terminal before your flight.

Airlines at Boise Airport

Boise Airport is currently served by eight airlines offering nonstop service to 29 destinations, including seasonal routes.

Airlines serving BOI include:

  • Alaska Airlines

  • American Airlines

  • Delta Air Lines

  • Southwest Airlines

  • United Airlines

  • Allegiant Air

  • Frontier Airlines

  • Sun Country Airlines

Service changes seasonally, and individual routes may operate only part of the year.

Always confirm your specific schedule directly with the airline.

Where Can You Fly Nonstop From Boise?

Boise's nonstop network has grown significantly.

As of September 2026, nonstop or announced seasonal service includes destinations such as:

  • Seattle

  • Portland

  • San Francisco

  • San Jose

  • Sacramento

  • Oakland

  • Los Angeles

  • Burbank

  • Orange County

  • Ontario

  • San Diego

  • Las Vegas

  • Phoenix

  • Phoenix-Mesa

  • Salt Lake City

  • Denver

  • Dallas/Fort Worth

  • Dallas Love Field

  • Chicago O'Hare

  • Chicago Midway

  • Minneapolis

  • Atlanta

  • Spokane

  • Pullman-Moscow

  • Anchorage

  • Palm Springs

  • Santa Rosa-Sonoma

  • Bozeman

Boise Airport also lists seasonal nonstop service to Honolulu beginning December 17, 2026, operated by Alaska Airlines.

Los Angeles service is also scheduled to expand in March 2027.

Because seasonal routes come and go, think of the nonstop map as something worth checking every time you plan a trip rather than a permanent list.

Food at Boise Airport

Boise Airport has been going through a significant concessions overhaul, with a stronger emphasis on bringing recognizable Boise and Idaho businesses into the terminal.

Current food and drink options include a mix of local concepts and national brands.

Before Security

One of the main pre-security options is Treefort Outpost Food + Drink.

The airport describes it as a full-service restaurant, bar and café inspired by Boise's Treefort Music Fest.

That gives people meeting travelers or waiting before security an actual sit-down option.

Food Court

Post-security food court options currently include:

  • Bardenay

  • Waffle Me Up

  • The STIL

  • Starbucks

  • Pizza Hut

  • Blue Sky Bagels

  • Protein Bar & Kitchen

  • Wendy's

Hours may vary based on airline schedules.

Concourse B Food

Concourse B currently includes Idaho Tap House and Up and Away Fueled by Flying M Coffee, along with shops and 24-hour Travel@Ease vending options.

Concourse C Food

Concourse C includes Turas Flights & Bites and Form & Function, plus 24-hour vending with hot food, espresso, snacks and drinks.

Can You Eat Before Going Through Security?

Yes.

Treefort Outpost operates before security, along with vending options.

However, most of Boise Airport's restaurant selection is located after the TSA checkpoint.

If you are meeting someone arriving at the airport rather than flying yourself, your dining choices are therefore more limited.

Shopping at Boise Airport

BOI has also expanded its retail lineup.

Current stores include:

  • Capital City Public Market

  • Sawtooth Essentials

  • The Shop@Treasure Valley

  • Boise Depot

Many of the newer shops mix standard travel essentials with Idaho-themed gifts, local products and souvenirs.

It is a much more locally focused retail lineup than the generic newsstand approach many airports use.

Accessibility at Boise Airport

Boise Airport provides accessible parking and other passenger assistance services.

Travelers who need additional TSA support can use the TSA Cares program.

TSA recommends requesting assistance at least 72 hours before travel when possible.

Rental car companies at BOI can also provide vehicles equipped with hand controls with advance notice.

How Far Is Boise Airport From Downtown?

One of BOI's biggest strengths is how close it is to Downtown Boise.

The airport is only a few miles south of downtown.

Under normal traffic conditions, getting between the airport and central Boise is generally a short drive.

That makes Boise particularly convenient for weekend visitors.

You can land, drop your luggage at a downtown hotel and start exploring without losing a large portion of the day to airport transportation.

For ideas once you arrive, start with our Ultimate Boise Visitor Guide: Things to Do, Eat & See in 2026.

Should Visitors Rent a Car in Boise?

That depends on the trip.

If you are staying downtown for a short weekend, you may not need one.

Downtown Boise, the Basque Block, Julia Davis Park, the Idaho State Capitol, restaurants and portions of the Boise River Greenbelt are accessible without driving everywhere.

For more on that area, see our Ultimate Guide to Downtown Boise.

A rental car becomes much more useful if you want to explore:

  • the Boise foothills

  • Southeast Boise

  • West Boise

  • Meridian

  • Eagle

  • Bogus Basin

  • Lucky Peak

  • Idaho wine country

  • McCall

  • Stanley

  • other Idaho road-trip destinations

For a broader Idaho trip, renting a car at the airport is usually the easiest option.

Getting From Boise Airport to Meridian

Meridian is west of Boise and is easy to reach from the airport using Interstate 84.

Travelers staying near The Village at Meridian or elsewhere in Meridian will generally find a rental car or rideshare more convenient than public transportation.

The Village has also become increasingly relevant for visitors because of its expanding restaurant, retail and entertainment lineup.

See our guide to What's Opening at The Village at Meridian in 2026 and 2027.

Boise Airport Is Growing

BOI is no longer the small regional airport some longtime Idaho residents remember.

Passenger traffic exceeded 5 million annual passengers, and traffic increased nearly 76 percent between 2015 and 2025.

The airport has been adding parking capacity, updating concessions, expanding rental-car infrastructure and gaining new nonstop routes.

That growth is good for travelers.

It also means some old assumptions about showing up 45 minutes before a flight and finding an empty parking garage are increasingly risky.

Five Tips Before Flying From Boise

A little planning eliminates most BOI frustrations.

  • Check parking availability before leaving home.

  • Allow roughly two hours if you plan to park.

  • Confirm your airline and flight status before driving to the airport.

  • Bring REAL ID-compliant identification or another TSA-approved ID.

  • If using the Economy Lot, account for the shuttle ride to the terminal.

Boise Airport is still easier to navigate than many major airports.

The goal is to keep it that way by not creating unnecessary problems for yourself.

The Bottom Line

Boise Airport is one of the Treasure Valley's biggest conveniences.

It is close to downtown, relatively compact, easy to navigate and increasingly well connected to major cities around the country.

The new Rental Car Center makes renting a vehicle simple.

Rideshare pickup is clearly designated.

The airport's newer restaurants and stores feel more connected to Boise than the generic airport concessions travelers may expect.

The main thing to watch is parking.

As Boise continues growing, close-in garages can fill and more travelers may need to use the Economy Lot.

Check parking availability, give yourself enough time and take advantage of BOI's relatively small footprint once you arrive.

Then get through security, grab a coffee and enjoy one of the easier airport experiences in the region.
